Case study

Hallmarq explained

Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging is a global leader in advanced diagnostic imaging solutions for veterinary practices. With offices in the UK and North America, the organisation supports veterinary professionals worldwide through innovative imaging technologies and specialist services. Since 2000, Hallmarq has helped enable more than 285,000 animal scans across 25 countries, building a reputation for innovation, customer service and clinical excellence.

As the business expanded from a single customer site to more than 125 locations globally, its technology requirements became increasingly complex. Supporting customers around the clock, enabling collaboration between office-based and field teams, and maintaining reliable access to critical applications required a modern technology foundation capable of supporting continued growth and international operations.

The business challenge

Rapid growth exposed the limitations of Hallmarq's legacy technology environment. An office-centric approach to communications was making it difficult to support a global customer base, while collaboration between office-based engineers and field service teams was becoming increasingly challenging.

The organisation also faced a number of operational issues, including limited resilience, poor visibility into customer communications, ageing telephony infrastructure and rising support costs. Mobile coverage across office locations was inconsistent, Wi-Fi performance was affected by specialist imaging equipment, and the existing platform struggled to support the demands of a growing international business.

With the business increasingly reliant on remote collaboration and 24/7 customer support, Hallmarq needed a more flexible, secure and scalable technology strategy that could support both immediate priorities and future growth.

The solution

Charterhouse worked closely with Hallmarq to develop a comprehensive transformation strategy designed to modernise communications, connectivity and security across the organisation. Rather than addressing individual challenges in isolation, the project focused on creating a technology foundation capable of supporting the business as it continued to scale.

The programme included upgrading network connectivity, strengthening cyber security, modernising communications and improving both wired and wireless infrastructure across Hallmarq's locations. Particular attention was given to ensuring employees could reliably access applications, collaborate effectively and remain connected regardless of where they were working.

Taking a partnership-led approach, Charterhouse helped Hallmarq create a more secure, resilient and agile environment capable of supporting a global, service-focused operation.

The transformation

The transformation fundamentally changed how Hallmarq operates. Employees can now communicate, collaborate and access business systems more effectively whether they are office-based, working remotely or supporting customers in the field.

By modernising the underlying technology estate, Hallmarq improved connectivity, reduced operational complexity and removed many of the barriers that had previously limited collaboration between teams. The new environment also delivered greater resilience and visibility, providing the business with more confidence in its ability to support customers globally.

Importantly, the project was not simply about replacing technology. It enabled Hallmarq to move away from legacy constraints and establish a platform capable of adapting to future business requirements, new working practices and continued international growth.

The outcome

Hallmarq now benefits from a more secure, reliable and scalable technology environment that supports both its employees and its customers around the world. Teams can collaborate more effectively, customer communications are easier to manage, and the organisation has greater flexibility in how it delivers services across a global operation.

By bringing together communications, connectivity and security improvements within a single strategy, Hallmarq established a platform capable of supporting long-term growth whilst reducing the limitations and risks associated with legacy infrastructure.

As Richard Smith, Chief Operating Officer at Hallmarq, explained:

"Working together as partners we have developed a strategy for both an effective, secure and reliable global communications solution that suits our needs as they are today and as a solid platform upon which we can build and adapt to the ever-changing digital environment of tomorrow."
